A few minutes later, a bat is seen flying into the rafters carrying a sheet of green-bar paper.

[laugh] We got to see "The Phantom of the Opera" when we were in NYC a while ago; a wonderful production. You'd do well; at least my image of you slinking off into the shadows is just perfect for the role.

In emacs, add this to your .emacs file
(global-set-key [f1] 'cperl-perldoc-at-point)
(cperl-mode <http://www.emacswiki.org/cgi-bin/wiki/CPerlMode> should come as part of the default emacs installation)
When Bats and lutefisk and press f1 to bring up the relevant perldoc page.

There's always an emacs answer...and an emacs user to provide it.
xkcd did a riff the other day:
that prompted a few chortles from me.

[snort] I just love XKCD; a great combination of snarkyness and a gentle sense of humor.

Oh yeah - that reminds me. The Travelling Okopniks are going to be in L.A. for a few days starting on the 14th; then, we'll head up to Sacramento on the 18th and muck about there until the 22nd - and might try to slide in an evening in the Bay Area before flying out early the next morning. Any of you folks that happen to be along the route and have some time to hang out (and would like to meet The Cutest Baby in the World) are invited to contact us; we'd be glad to see you in the flesh.

Oh, me! me!
[Love to finally meet you all for real - let me know if this works out.]

My Social Director will email you - once she's fed The Michael. Looking forward to meeting you!

Delighted to have you stop by and have the family enjoy some traditional Scandinavian delicacies such as my home-made pizza and garlic bread. There are also persistent rumours of someone named Breen likewise living in Menlo Park, CA.

Rick, that would be just wonderful. We'll even try to have a few special munchies along to share. I seem to recall that you like good hot sauce; we'll bring some crack^Wdatil pepper sauce, a Florida specialty.

Better yet! I'm willing to make the Sac-Menlo Park drive during the week (Tue-Fri); if you two can come up with an evening that works for all of you, we'll be there.

If they're going to strip-search all of us, then you should carefully consider exactly when to feed The Michael... and then fill him up till he bulges. I think the TSA deserves to get the full benefit of such decisions.

There is a joke hidden in the title tag of the comics " Real programmers set the universal constants at the start such that the universe evolves to contain the disk with the data they want. "

[laugh] Oh, how very XKCD.
Kat has noted that XKCD is pubbed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial License (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/2.5/), which means that we can reproduce whatever pertinent bits we want in LG. So - having sent a courtesy email to the author - we will now carry a selected XKCD comic strip in LG each month. A little more fun...

Oh, spiffy! I've already exchanged contact info with Breen. Perhaps we can make it a group event, then?

I do have a cookbook with the requisite recipe. I fear this, deeply. It's kind of like having a copy of the Necronomicon.

I originally misread that as "exquisite", and boggled.
Meanwhile, Ben notes with some relief that we do not have any lutefisk recipes in his extensive archive.
