Michael Tiemann is a true open source software pioneer. The one-time author of the GNU C++ compiler and founder of the world's first open source company (Cygnus Solutions in 1989), Michael is now President of the Open Source Initiative as well as Red Hat's Vice President of Open Source Affairs. In the latter role, Michael integrates and informs technology and open source strategies for Red Hat and its partners and customers in the public and private sectors. Michael provides financial support to the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the GNOME foundation, the Free Software Foundation, and other organizations that further the cause of programming freedom.
